Dubbing is the spinning of fur, synthetics or other materials with or onto the tying thread. With strategic use of a dubbing loop fly tiers can create a wide variety of features on any fly pattern. Dubbing is arguably the most effective method for creating life like, translucent effects on many fly patterns, both wet and dry.  Of the dubbing techniques I use, the dubbing loop is probably the most versatile and under utilized. Over the years I have had the pleasure of observing and talking to many fly tiers. Through these discussions and observations I have adapted and adopted many tricks and techniques to my fly tying repertoire. It is these dubbing loop tricks and techniques I will be focusing on.
